Randy Sellier is of counsel at the firm, and his practice is concentrated on commercial and employment litigation and advice. Mr. Sellier began his legal career with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton. In 1985, Mr. Sellier joined Stein, Zauderer, Ellenhorn, Friedman & Kaplan and became a partner in a successor firm in 1987. In 2003, Mr. Sellier joined Proskauer Rose as a litigation partner, where he spent 7 years. During his career, Mr. Sellier has been involved in a wide range of litigations, arbitrations, and mediations, including matters involving contracts, securities, employment, non-competition agreements, partnerships, products liability, international commercial disputes and professional liability. He has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution, both on behalf of clients and as a mediator. Mr. Sellier has written numerous articles for the New York Law Journal and other publications on a variety of subjects. He has been recognized as AV Preeminent Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Recent cases include representing a group of former senior executives in an action to enforce their severance agreements; an action by a major non-profit corporation concerning its right to reimbursement for certain pension payments; representation of a leading investment fund manager in connection with his departure from his employer; defending a Russian businessman against claims arising out of real estate transactions in Moscow; defense of an air freight company against claims concerning the return of military equipment from Afghanistan; representing bondholders in class actions against the Republic of Argentina; a contract dispute between an international distributor of heart stents and a manufacturer; defense of an international bank against claims by former executives; defense of a prominent international law firm in an action involving alleged malpractice; defense of discrimination claims asserted by a former medical school student; enforcement of a hedge fund partnership agreement against a departing partner; and several contract actions arising out of the business of a telecommunication company.
Mr. Sellier received his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Wesleyan University and an M.I.A. degree, cum laude, from the Columbia School of International Affairs. He received his J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law, where he received the John Norton Pomeroy Prize for academic excellence and was a member of the New York University Law Review and the Order of the Coif. Mr. Sellier served as the mayor of the Village of Pelham Manor (2013-2015) and as a Trustee (2007-2013). He has handled numerous pro bono matters and was one of the principal lawyers in a major election law case on behalf of the Ohio League of Women Voters. He is also active in bar associations, and serves as a mediator in the Southern District of New York and the New York State Court Commercial Division.
